NOTCH SAGA COMES TO NOT-AS-COOL-AS-A-DEATHMATCH END: BETHESDA SETTLES ‘SCROLLS’ LAWSUIT WITH CREATOR OF MINECRAFT

Nerds in Court has followed the lawsuit of Bethesda, creator of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, against Majong Studios since it was first filed.  Majong Studios, creator of the popular Minecraft game, were sued over the title of their upcomingScrolls game.  At one point, Majong Studios head Markus ‘Notch’ Persson offered to settle the lawsuit with a Quake deathmatch, but retracted upon reflection.  Although the full details are unknown, Persson recently tweeted that a settlement was reached allowing Scrolls to go forward as planned with Bethesda owning the actual trademark, but Majong’s title permitted.  NiC wishes the best for Mr. Persson and gives him the 2011 Award for Most Entertaining Alternative Dispute Resolution Proposal.
